SYMPTOM
The 941, 944, or 940 form was rejected for an invalid PIN.
CAUSE
To file a 941, 944, or 940 form electronically require an IRS issued PIN. The form could have been rejected for one of two reasons:
- The PIN entered on the form does not match what the IRS has on record for the EIN.
- There is no PIN assigned to the EIN entered on the form.
SOLUTION
Procedure 1: Verify the PIN entered
If you are certain that a PIN was applied for and assigned to the EIN, please contact the IRS at 1-866-255-0654 to verify the validity of the PIN entered.
Procedure 2: Apply for a PIN
If a PIN was not applied for and assigned to the EIN, please submit a PIN application to the IRS. This can be completed, free of charge, on Yearli.
